Astro Wars (www.astrowars.com) is a free-to-play, web-based, massively multiplayer space strategy game.

Mission Statement

In September 2004 AllesRoger, the owner and creator of AstroWars, posted at the Astrowars Forum, what he envisioned as the purpose of this game. This is faithfully reproduced below, and is as true today as it was back then:

What AstroWars wants to achieve:
  • fair play.
  • communication between players.
  • social interaction between players.
  • epic battles in the end.
  • a game which requires strategic and diplomatic skills to win.
  • easy to learn and interesting in the long run.
What AstroWars does not want to achieve:
  • multis and cheaters.
  • no communication.
  • a big single player game where the only interaction is to compare the points
  • all about the first player/alliance to reach 500/470 to win.
  • a game where a single player, who has perfect build up skills, can win without any contacts.
  • hard to learn and boring in the end.

Game Overview

After registration you start on a tiny planet in one of the many star systems in the galaxy. You begin by building up your planet, then you can colonize uninhabited planets expanding your empire. Once you think your fleet is strong enough, you can engage in battles with other players and take over their planets! You'll need to plan carefully and use diplomacy to help you in order to succeed in this competition with thousands of players from all over the world!

Objective of the Game

Expansion of your own space empire and/or the dominion of your alliance through war, diplomacy and planet development. As you colonise further planets, so your total points will increase and your level of development and ranking will improve. The winner of the round is the first player to reach or exceed 500 points for a total of seven days, or the first alliance to reach or exceed 470 points for a total of three days.

System Requirements

Astro Wars runs in real-time and is web-based, so you can play from anywhere with no installation, as long as you have a web browser and an internet connection. The game also has a WAP interface. Rounds can last for up to three months.
