Resign

Honourable players resign, that means they leave the game so they can restart in the Outer Rims, if they realise that they are defeated. Others prefer to defend to the death by building giant starbases. Both offer advantages to an attacker.
Resigning will cause the planet to become Unknown, so after conquest an attacker might find some money or an artifact. Fortress builders on the other hand, are often kept untouched until the very last days, when it is extremely easy to crush starbases above level 20 to earn high bonuses to Player Level and score.
If you wish to resign before the game has ended you should use the Settings link at the bottom of your News screen. On that page you will see the option resign - i am defeated in the right column, which will take you to a confirmation page. You must click the confirmation for your resignation to be accepted, otherwise you will still be included in the game.
Once you have resigned you may restart the game if you wish. If you restart you will begin as if you never played, so all development and points are cancelled, and any race selection you made is reset. Doing this late in the game will put you at a disadvantage to the players who started before you. If you do not have a strong development worth defending when the winner is declared, resigning then will allow you to test race selections and strategies before the next game begins.
Notes
If you start a round then wish to begin again (perhaps you made a mistake in your race selections, or started too early to be among friends), you must wait for 30 minutes before you can resign. The resign feature will display a countdown next to it, to show how much time remains before it becomes available to use.
